Criminal Court Database
From 2020 onwards a large number of European Member States will exchange European Investigation Orders (EIO Directive 2014/41/EU) and Mutual Legal Assistance forms in criminal proceedings electronically as a result of the EXEC project (https://www.e-codex.eu/EXEC) and of other related initiatives like the e-Evidence initiative of the European Commission. Most Member States will use the Reference Implementation backend system provided by the European Commission for this purpose. In order to enable users to identify the competent executing authorities in other Member States, the European Commission will establish a Criminal Court Database that works similar to the already existing European Court
Database [for civil matters] – probably as an integrated service of the Reference Implementation. The initial data for the Criminal Court Database will be provided by the European Commission. However, keeping the Criminal Court Database up to date and adding data for electronic addressing, which cannot be provided by other data sources, will require additional and constant effort by the Member States.
The project aims to implement the automated provision of the required data by nine Member States. The data supply to the Criminal Court Database will contribute essentially to the success of the e-Evidence platform as it will allow end users to find and address the competent authorities easily and on an up-to-date data basis. Finding the competent authorities easily will save a significant amount of time for the users and therefore increase the acceptance of the e-Evidence Platform. By offering up-to-date and accurate data regarding the addressing of a competent authorities, it will also facilitate meeting the short deadlines of the EIO procedure
