Rosanna Amato is a researcher at IGSG-CNR, where she currently mainly works on the state of implementation of international and supranational legal instruments on the protection of crime victims, as well as on the organizational conditions that affect access to justice for crime victims.

She graduated in International Relations and Diplomatic Affairs from the University of Bologna with a thesis on “The Administration of Juvenile Justice in International Law” and, at the same university, she was awarded a postgraduate fellowship for the study of complex organizational systems (2008) and completed a Master’s degree for International Lawyers (2010). In 2014, he also obtained a PhD in European Law (double degree) from the University of Bologna and the Université de Strasbourg (France), with a thesis on “Network-based Judicial Cooperation in the Area of Freedom, Security and Justice.”

From 2009 to 2010, she worked as an organization specialist at the University of Bologna, where she provided specialized support to the Director General and the heads of the Administrative Divisions in defining the organizational structures of the University’s technical-administrative services.

From 2011 to 2014, she worked as a doctoral fellow at the Centre d’études internationales et européennes CEIE (University of Strasbourg) and the International Centre for Research on European Law (University of Bologna). Furthermore, in the same period, she was a PhD student associate at the Research Institute on Judicial Systems of the National Research Council of Italy (IRSIG-CNR).

From 2016 to 2022, she collaborated on a regular basis with IGSG-CNR (formerly IRSIG-CNR) as a postdoctoral expert, participating in numerous international research projects. In particular, she has worked on legal, organizational and technological issues related to the functioning of judicial cooperation among national authorities, both in the civil and criminal domains (Improving the Transfer of Persons; Me-CODEX; LEILA; FUGIT). Furthermore, she has also been involved in cooperation programs aimed at improving the efficiency and quality of national judicial systems (Slovakia COE: Technical Assistance) and in collaborative activities aimed at developing operational tools to assist in the prevention, prosecution and adjudication of cases of judicial corruption (IBA – Judicial Integrity Initiative). More recently, she has conducted research aimed at investigating the effective functioning of the crime victim protection system. In this context, she also took part in the development of the first national institutional information portal on the rights of crime victims.

Since 2020, she has been a member of the National Coordination Table for the creation of an integrated support system for crime victims led by the Italian Ministry of Justice, and as of 2022, she is also part of the Academic Network “UN.I.RE. – University network against gender-based violence”. She has also been a member of the Justice Administration Research Association (JARA) since its foundation in 2021.
