Digital Future of Justice 2.0.
The Council of Europe Hackathon

The Council of Europe, in collaboration with the Institute of Legal Informatics and Judicial Systems of the National Research Council of Italy, and the University of Bologna, aims to involve students and researchers to harness technology for better human rights protection and contribute to raising awareness of judges, lawyers, and other legal professionals on the constantly evolving case law of the European Court of Human Rights.

The challenge is to develop an innovative IT tool that helps legal professionals compare court cases across different countries by identifying common elements like facts, involved parties, and legal reasoning. This solution will empower judges and legal experts to access and analyse similar cases across jurisdictions, ultimately contributing to more consistent legal outcomes across Europe. With growing international legal issues — such as environmental protection and cross-border privacy concerns — such a tool will help harmonise judicial practices and facilitate international cooperation.
